Vaulta launches multi-currency accounts for freelancers working with international clients
5 May 2026 · 4 min read
Vaulta today announced the full rollout of multi-currency accounts for all Business plan customers, enabling freelancers and sole traders to hold, send, and receive payments in over 30 currencies from a single dashboard — with no currency conversion markup on incoming transfers.
The feature, which has been in beta testing with a group of 500 Vaulta customers since February, allows users to receive payments from international clients in the client’s local currency and hold the balance without converting it — useful for freelancers who regularly pay for international software subscriptions or tools in USD or EUR.
What’s included
- Hold balances in 30+ currencies including USD, EUR, CAD, AUD, CHF, JPY, and SEK
- Receive international bank transfers with a local account number in the US, EU, and Australia
- Convert between currencies at the real mid-market rate with no added markup
- Send international payments directly from your Vaulta dashboard
- Invoicing in any supported currency, with automatic conversion tracking for your tax records
Why this matters for freelancers
The traditional route for a UK freelancer receiving USD payments was to accept the currency conversion imposed by their bank — often 2.5 to 3.5% above the real exchange rate — plus a flat international transfer fee. On a $5,000 invoice, that’s up to $175 lost before the money even reaches your account. Vaulta’s multi-currency accounts eliminate that cost entirely for incoming transfers.
The feature also solves a practical bookkeeping problem. When you hold foreign currency and convert it at a time of your choosing, the conversion is recorded as a separate transaction with its own exchange rate and date — making it straightforward to report accurately in your self-assessment rather than trying to reconstruct the effective rate from bank statements months after the fact.
How to access it
Multi-currency accounts are available now on the Vaulta Business plan at €19/month. Existing Business plan customers will find the feature already active in their dashboard under Accounts → Add Currency. New customers can enable it during sign-up by selecting the Business plan.
